Batch image resizer - Qt4 GUI application

Baires Screenshot Baires Screenshot

Why Baires?

Baires, unlike other programs does not let you to select images for resizing. It resizes all images he finds in Source directory. It is designed to resize many images in quickest and simplest way possible.
This is particulary useful if you use same directories often, like, for example, resizing images from your digital camera, to your directory for resized images.
Since it saves last used parameters, usually one click is enough to do the job. Can't get simpler than that.

Supported formats

Baires, currently, supports JPEG, PNG, TIFF and BMP images.

Source and Destination directories

In source directory field, you should put directory where original images resides. You can put directory manually or browse it by "Folder find dialog". Destination directory is directory where resized images will be stored.

Source and Destination directories can be the same directory, but in that case, "File prefix" must be filled.

"Resize to" chooser

At the moment, Baires has 3 options defined: "1024x768", "800x600" and "custom". Fixed resolution options (the first two), will resize images to defined size, but they are smart enough to see if image is rotated 90 degrees (portrait), and will act accordingly.

By selecting "custom" option, Width and Height boxes will be enabled, requiring you to set the resolution for resizing yourself.
WARNING: it will disregard image orientation and image aspect, and force image to the selected size, which may distort images.

However, you can add custom resolution to a resulutions box, which will be saved and where it will pay attention to the image orientation, as any other pre-defined resolution, when used.
Later, you can manage all of your "custom" resolutions from settings dialog.

File prefix

Whatever is defined in file prefix, will be put in front of the image name. Example: if image name is "DSC0023.JPG", and File prefix is set to "small_", result image file name will be "small_DSC0023.JPG".
If Source and Destination directories are the same, File prefix cannot be empty.

Quality

Higher the number, better the quality, but file size on disk is larger. My conclusion is that value 75 is optimal quality/file size ratio. You may experiment to see what works best for you.

Starting process

Pressing "Start" button will resize all JPG and PNG images it can find in Source directory. "Abort" button will be enabled while resize process is running, so you can stop it if you wish.
